The I Can Make a Dance series of dance books offers students an exciting new way to explore dance movement guided by verse and poetry. They will therefore develop a greater understanding of the natural phenomenon discussed in the book, and of their own bodies, while internalizing a deep love of the world they live in.
The books include photographs of diverse young dancers superimposed on original landscape paintings illustrating the various science concepts with dance. Each volume guides a creative approach to dancemaking. Though the target age range is Pre-K to 5th grade, they lend themselves to people of all ages and abilities. Families, caregivers, teachers, including dance teaching artists and non-dance trained teachers, are able to use these books as tools because of the simplicity of descriptive language and illustrations.
At the end of each book are spreads of the children dancing with each photo labeled with a movement word used in the body of the book. A parent and teacher guide is also provided for creating a dance activity.
